Focus on Yourself, Not Others – Focus, Determination, Action → Success 1

This entry is part 3 of 3 in the series Focus, Determination, Action --> Success

Ok, so far everything that I have mentioned amongst the items you want to leave behind if you die has to do with other people. Or does it?

The answer to that question is actually no, it does not. It has to do with what YOU want to leave others and how YOU want others to perceive you. So, why even bring others into the picture? If it should be about YOU, who cares about the other individuals involved?

That question has another simple answer. If you are creating a goal, you need some way of measuring the results. The way that others will perceive you is actually a great way to measure whether or not you were able to become the person YOU wanted to be. Therefore, what you leave others is a great way to measure the tangible and intangible goals you achieved.

However, you have to be very careful with whose perception you are using to measure your results. There are many out there that are not going to be happy with your success, and it’s because they were not successful themselves. There are many other people that will tell you that you are not successful because it isn’t the way they want to be successful. Not everyone looks at the world the same. Everyone has their own paradigm or perception of how they look at the world and what they view as valuable.

The remaining important question then becomes, how do you find the right people to determine if you reached your goals?

You want to find others that are already successful with what you want to accomplish to mentor you, and in turn, help gauge your success. Surround yourself with like-minded people who are trying to achieve the same as you.

Additionally, you want to get rid of the negative influences in your life that will try to stop you from succeeding, including the negative people. Unfortunately, there are people in everyone’s lives who would rather see others fail than succeed. Like the saying goes, “There’s one in every family.”

On the bright side, you can reach out and find positive influences from many different places, including associations, church, volunteer groups, and local meet-ups or events. But remember, the most important thing is what you believe for yourself and how you feel about yourself, not what others think or feel.
